Permission to Muck About, a Grammar of Intuition, and the More-Than-Human Future

Joseph Lindley

6.30 PM (CEST)

@Workshop Space Tre

B3 Building, Campus Durando

Abstract

In this talk, Joseph Lindley will argue that Design Research represents an under-valued, but fundamental, element of how we make sense of the world around us. He will discuss how our ability to turn the practice into knowledge is a super power. He will align this type of knowledge production with not only Design but also with science, art, engineering and Indigenous knowledge. Joseph Lindley argues that this dynamic and creative means to engage with the 21st century’s wicked problems is the key to unlocking the potential of today’s rich theoretical landscape and turning it into a tangible More-Than-Human Future.

Bio of Joseph Lindley

Joseph Lindley is a Senior Research Fellow at Imagination Lancaster, where he leads Design Research Works. Their mission is to evidence and advocate for the value of Design Research. To support this, they produced and recently released a landmark documentary titled Permission to Muck About, which explores the intellectual stories of Design Research, shows who does it, and explains how we can benefit from it. Joseph Lindley also contribute towards emerging theories of More-Than-Human Design and has several ongoing practice-based projects exploring new interactions with Generative AI.
